Note: due to the total solar eclipse on August 21, all hotels in the region may sell out, and we strongly encourage early booking.

The Great American Eclipse

August 21, 2017 will be the first total Solar eclipse visible from contiguous United States since 1979. The path of totality will pass just south of the conference location. An eclipse watching event will be held in Madras, OR on the morning of August 21.

There is a carpool sign-up for transportation from the hotel to the eclipse viewing that will leave early Monday morning. The eclipse starts at approximately 9:00 am local time and Madras is 2.5 hours from the Skamania Lodge without traffic. Traffic the morning of the eclipse will be extremely unpredictable so leaving several hours prior to 6:00 am is recommended. Individuals offering carpools can decide the departure time that best fits their own traffic risk vs. sleep weighting. We have prepared a guide with information for route planning, parking options, and our gathering area at the Erickson Collection museum.
