REGULARIZED EQUATIONS OF MOTION FOR THE ALFRIEND-COFFEY HAMILTONIAN

I. Aparicio and L. Flora, Universidad de Valladolid, Spain

Abstract

We study the regularization of the equations of motion derived from the Alfriend- Coffey second-order radial intermediary for the main problem in Artificial Satellite Theory. Appropriate combinations of transformation of both the dependent and independent variables, along with the introduction of first-integrals and constraints into the equations, allow one to regularize the second-order differential equations of motion obtained from the canonical system generated by the intermediary. We check the analytical behavior of some transformations capable of linearizing the pure Kepler problem when confronted with the Alfriend-Coffey model formulated in homogeneous canonical formalism in extended phase space.
