Abstract

In this paper, vibration control problems for a deploying flexible appendages by the use of piezoceramic sensors and actuators are presented. The time varying nature of a deploying appendage problem is accommodated by an energy decreasing control law approach. While the appendage is being deployed with its length increased, the actuator works independently in an effort to decrease the elastic vibrational energy. A set of piezoceramic sensor/actuator was used to achieve the control objective. The analysis and simulations have showed that the piezoceramic sensor/actuator can be used to stabilize the system and minimize the vibration of the appendage.
